Xiphypops没有正式的中文名，暂译为刺尻鱼颊剑亚属。
前鳃盖骨有2~3根硬棘是本亚属主要特征。较Centropyge/刺尻鱼指名亚属的鱼体型稍小(平均6~8厘米)，适应力强，更适合珊瑚缸。
